I am very honoured to be chosen Captain of Tuam Golf Club this year and I
am conscious of my responsibility to carry on the good work done by so
many since our Club was founded in 1904.
Golf clubs face many challenges and Tuam is responding to the difficult
economic times by providing an even better facility for our members and
those who visit us on a regular basis.
Survival means we must provide a quality product for our members and I
think that we have gone a long way towards achieving that goal through the
development and drainage works that have been carried out in recent years.
Indeed I am indebted to those who have continually strived to improve the
course and we as a committee will take this progress another step further
during 2012.
With the current economic climate we have to use our resources as
efficiently as possible. This year will see the introduction of electronic
payment systems for club services, with online events and booking
facilities for the convenience of both our members and visitors.
I urge our members to participate in our club competitions as regularly as
possible, to promote our open days to their fellow golfers and to support
the bar, restaurant and pro-shop as often as they can.
I ask for voluntary assistance from our members in work programs around
the club and fund raising events during the year. I believe this will
strengthen our club over the next couple of years.
Favorite aspect of the club: Continually trying to improve our course and
facilities.
Favorite hole: The 5th because I enjoyed the high’s of my first hole in
one there.
